The four Nordic TSOs remain focused on connecting to the European mFRR balancing platform by Q1 2027. As already communicated in the Nordic Balancing Model news published in November 2025, the Nordic TSOs are continuing preparations for MARI accession while working closely with the European project to ensure a robust and well-functioning market setup.
The local development within the four Nordic TSOs is progressing as planned. So is the progression of Nordic change requests for the MARI platform. The Nordic change requests aim to mitigate the risk of undesired price spread, similar to what was experienced when the Nordic mFRR energy activation market (mFRR EAM) went live. The Nordic change requests are the first suggested changes to the algorithm since the MARI platform went live. Therefore, the European MARI project continues to assess the change requests thoroughly, to mitigate the risk of unexpected market impacts in relation to implementation.
When the consequences of the Nordic change requests to the MARI platform are better understood, a decision on the implementation of the change requests can be taken and a specific Nordic go-live date will be possible to set. The go-live date will be communicated once confirmed.
The Nordic Balancing Model programme will continue its close collaboration with the European MARI project on the timeline and to mitigate potential contingencies.
The Nordic TSOs are fully committed to have solutions and a detailed accession plan that ensures secure and stable system and market operation during and after accession to MARI.
