Update to the timeline for the Nordic accession to the MARI platform

The four Nordic Transmission System Operators have revised the timeline for the accession to the European mFRR balancing platform, MARI, with the new target set for Q1, 2027.

The revised timeline allows for joint Nordic accession and for implementing necessary Nordic market features into the MARI platform. When accessing the MARI platform, the Nordics will get access to the European balancing market, while the main features of 15 min automated balancing prevail.

The timeline of Q1, 2027, is subject to significant contingencies. Nordic change requests need to be assessed by the European MARI project to mitigate the risk of unexpected market impacts in relation to the accession. Also, operational stability must be ensured while transitioning from a regional Nordic platform to a European platform.

Due to these contingencies, the go-live date will be confirmed as the project progresses.

Towards the accession, The Nordic Balancing Model program will continue the work with handling these contingencies and ensuring secure and stable system and market operation at and after accession.
