Go-live of automated Nordic mFRR energy activation market is postponed

The four Nordic TSO’s have today decided to postpone the go-live of the automated Nordic mFRR energy activation market (mFRR EAM) to early 2025.

The Nordic TSO’s acknowledge that the additional postponement of the Nordic mFRR EAM go-live is unfortunate. However, as manual frequency restoration reserves (mFRR) are central to balancing the power system, it is vital for security of supply that TSO’s reduce operational risks to a minimum before go-live and secure proper market conditions to our customers.

Due to the need for more time to ensure the safe operation of the new automated balancing process in Statnett, mFRR EAM will not go live on December 3rd.

The NBM program will use late January as a guiding date for go-live of Nordic mFRR EAM and does not anticipate that this will interfere with upcoming implementations of 15 min market time unit.

In the coming weeks, the NBM program will focus on accessing options for the go-live execution and completing planned activities in trial operation.

A new go-live date will be communicated in the beginning of November.
